Pedigree!

Andrew

Born in Mahoning County, Ohio in 1950, Dad discovered his deep love for the wide open west at 16 years old while on a family vacation. At a rest stop he took off running for the crest of a nearby hill, and kept running, and running and running. The hill was so much longer and taller and bigger than anything he'd encountered in his life "back east", but once he finally got to the top he stood, out of breath, and gazed with unbelieving eyes at the endless panorama which stretched all around him. That moment would burn into his heart forever, and he would always prize open spaces over treed areas the rest of his days.

As he tells it, that was also the trip during which he had the high honor of visiting in Oklahoma the then famous Appaloosa stallion Bright Eyes Brother, and a prized memory was leading that important horse by hand in a circle.

Dad had a spontaneous interest in many breeds and horse types over the years, but he never lost his love for spotted ones.

A rather "grass is always greener" kind of guy, Dad intermittently thought mules would be a grand idea, and he and Roy got some from time to time. Dad usually avoided cameras like the plague, but here is a video which did make it to the screen with Dad and Roy behind the team they were excited about at the time.
