Pedigree!

Roy

Born in Wisconsin in 1980, moved and lived all over the west with the immediate family, Roy grew up working around horses, but severe health issues in his mid twenties hampered his full time career. He managed between the two as he could, and loved to get out and work with horses or move cattle with Abi whenever his health allowed.

As a boy he learned to ride on a young Thoroughbred mare and with his dog "Red" would explore the nearby woods of the Montana Rockies. The next year he started his training career with a highly spirited Arab mare, and afterwards always had a special place in his heart for hotbloods. After his illness (which happened in 2005, while living in Wyoming) he intermittently trained in the family business and sometimes dabbled in mules, some results of which can be seen on the video channel.

He also enjoyed trick training, as well as getting equine critters started in harness.

Toward his last years he became enamored with Spanish style horses, trying Andalusians and Lusitanos, including a "surprise" Azteca filly (out of his mare) which he trained and enjoyed the company of till the end of his days. He was never married, no children.

Roy was particularly proud of the sale of Double K's horse "Grease" to a Canadian operation which provided animals for film production, where the trick of laying down which Roy had taught him made Grease suited to a role in the Canadian produced series Heartland. Roy watched the show closely and could identify which shots Grease was in... (so named because he sported a black "grease spot" on his haunch.)

One of his favorites among the sale horses was "Denny", who went to Florida.

Another colorful horse which Roy was particularly proud of was the paint he called "Hidalgo"

An old cowboy compliment used to be "he rode good horses"... well, Roy in his lifetime was privileged to ride quite a few really remarkable horses. One which stands out in a different way to the usual was Hanoverian "Latigo", who sold to the Eastern Seaboard and pursued a successful jump career with his new mom.

He often enjoyed sharing the horse experiences with visitors, and some of the brief moments he would smile most was while doing that.
